I moved to Ashburton in 1993 after I completed a painting and decorating apprenticeship in Rangiora. I worked for a local painter for around 14 years. In that time I got married and have had three children, which we have bought up in Ashburton. In 2006 I decided to go into a business partnership with Phil Nicolson, and since then have been building Ashburton Painters & Decorators as a recognisable, reliable business.

Over the years I’ve enjoyed meeting local people and supplying their painting and decorating needs. I get great pleasure out of going onto a job site and seeing the difference in a home or business receiving a quality painting finish, along with how much it can change the look of a building.

I enjoy supporting local clubs and community events around Ashburton.

Outside of work, when I have down time, I love visiting my children and spending time with them, camping, sailing, mountain biking, and going to classic car shows.

I have made some good friends through the business over the years and enjoy meeting new people with new projects and look forward to hearing from you and your painting and decorating needs.

Phil Nicolson

Hi my name is Phil Nicolson and I am one of the two directors at Ashburton Painters & Decorators. Quentin and I opened our business in 2006 and have been providing our services in Ashburton for over 13 years.

I am a born and bred Ashburtonian, where I attended Ashburton College and then entered an painting apprenticeship with a local company. During my twenties, I went overseas for work and travel. While travelling during this time, I meet my wife Stacey and we have been married for 16 years. We have 2 boys, Cole and Aiden who attend Ashburton Intermediate and Ash Coll. The boys have been involved in a number of fantastic community sport and youth programs throughout the years, which we have been proud to be involved in with by providing support and sponsorship.

What I love about Mid Canterbury is all the great things that are on our front door and the great community spirit. I am passionate about local rugby and have spent a number of years being part of the JAB and committee section. I enjoy getting out and doing a bit of fishing and spending time with my friends and family.

I have a passion for the painting and decorating industry and have since 1991. I enjoy meeting clients and providing a great service that results in the clients vision and needs being brought to reality. I'm proud of the company we have built and also of the trust we have with a number of both businesses and people in our community.
